As I said earlier, I’m excited about Clinton’s speech. Hope she’s a real beast…
First impressions: The Video Tribute
Wow. That almost made me like her. Almost. The “American Girl” part was particularly effective. The video portrays her as a fighter. I’ll say it again: I hope we see her as such throughout her speech…
Is it just me or does Bill actually look like he likes Hillary!!! Maybe even loves her. Hmm… Just an obersvation….are those TEARS in his eyes?
**Update**
A proud mother, a proud Democrat, a proud Senator from NY, proud American and a proud…supporter of B. Obama. Blah. What about a proud person who used to be a fighter.
…
Time to unite? That is NOT what I wanted to hear.
…
“I haven’t spent 35 years in the trenches…” A reminder of who has more experience? Not sure.
…
What is a presidential election really about? Hillary says it’s about … well now she’s remembering what she learned on the campaign trail…oh God a mother with cancer and no health care. I think I’ve heard that one before…
****Update 2****
All 50 states. She got that right, unlike her party’s nominee hehe.
…
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits. Now that’s funny.
…
“I ran for president to …” Boy I think she hit every liberal talking point on the list.
…
“We will work for an America that…” Who the hell is we? B.H.O. has totally excluded her from the ticket. I don’t see him placing her in any position within an Obama administration.
******Update 3******
Oh good lord. Not this “the Republicans pad the pockets of the oil companies” routine again.
…
Hillary salutes Bill. How precious.
…
“America is fortunate that Joe Biden will be at Obama’s side.” How bad did it hurt to say that? I know damn well she was thinking what a dog Biden is to have stolen that slot from her.
…
John McCain doesn’t think that women should earn equal wages? Where the hell did she get that from. Hilarious.
********Conclussion********
I think I’ll just conclude, even though she appears as if she’s going to go ahead and talk some more. It’s kind of sad, really, to see her NOT lash out. It’s almost sad to see her NOT do what we all know she wants to do, for her to NOT say what she really wants to say.
It’s sad, I think, to see flashes of her ability as …
Wait a minute. “If you want a taste of freedom…keep going…We’re Americans, we’re not big on quiting.” Is that a mixed message? Is she covertly asking for her supporters to continue pushing for her to be the nominee? Is she subliminaly saying that she’s still “in it to win it?” Now I’m confused. I think she’s confused.
On second thought, I’m not so sure she was as passive as I originally thought. She has finished now and is exiting. And I’m still confused. Let’s see what the FoxNews panel has to say…
Brit says she did, “at least outwardly,” what Obama’s people wanted her to do. I’m not convinced, and I don’t think Hume was either.
- Kristol: A surprisingly timid endorsement in which she never endorsed Obama’s experience or abilities. Endorsed only because he IS the nominee
- Kondracke: “Never said Obama will be a great president.” Another vote against Hillary having really spoken like a strong Obama supporter
- Easton: “A smart speech for her own political future” by linking herself to women’s political history…made her more important (almost?) than any candidate could have been
- Barnes: Standard Democrat stuff. Very canned. “Best lines came from Harriott Tubman.” “I bet the Obama people will complain.”
That means that, 4/4, the panel thinks Hillary did not support Obama with enough vigor.
I don’t think the drama around Hillar Clinton as a 2008 Presidential Candidate is over yet. I guess we shall see.
**********Update 4*********
Yea, if Michelle Obama’s reaction is any evidence of general thoughts amongst the Obama camp, well, they ain’t happy. As the folks at RedState said: “If looks could kill.”
Well if they could, Hillary would be deader than dead.

Comcast bites the big one. I just thought I’d share that. Every morning I have to reset my router and modem. I allow the computer to go to standby, oops, have to reset. Before I’m finished w/ this post, I will probably have to reset the damn router and modem again. Fourty-five bucks for partial internet. But it’s not just me. A co-worker who rents just a few blocks from me says she suffers from the same problems. The comcast man is coming tomorrow to test her service. Hopefully she’ll have good news and then I’ll call comcast, too.
Sorry, just had to vent.

Today was my first day as an official member of the John Handley High School staff. We did lots of paperwork and HR stuff. It’s funny how college professors and K-12 administrators warn teachers/future teachers of the dangers of talking to much without taking some break time and allowing the students to move around and "get their hands dirty," but when you give one of them a lectern and a microphone you can’t get them to shut up. Ever.
Last week was busy–moving in then going back home for a cookout. Grocery shopping, unpacking, trying to arrange stuff in this small apartment. Scary. Exciting. Exhausting.
Last Wednesday night I cooked my first meal in the new apartment. Nothing too fancy. Basically a recipe I found in the William and Sonoma catalogue:
Steak and Egg Panini:
Season 1 or 2 strip steaks w/ salt and pepper; grill
Meanwhile, combine 4 to 6 eggs, a few chopped, fresh chives, a splash of hotsauce, salt, pepper and a splash of milk or cream.
Remove cooked steaks from grill and gently scramble eggs. Thinly slice steaks. Layer steaks, eggs and cheddar cheese on sour-dough bread. Grill until bread shows grill-marks and cheese is melted using a grill pan and a panini press or (like me) using the Cuisinart Panini Griddler.
Last night, for my second meal in the apartment, I made a frozen stir-fry. Nothing great. Tonight, however, I borrowed (and slightly modified) a recipe from the Real Simple magazine:
Shrimp w/ Pasta
Bring water to a boil for whole-wheat linguine (the recipe actually calls for cous-cous). Prepare pasta as normal.
Meanwhile, dice one small onion. Saute the onion in olive oil for 3-5 minutes. Add one (or two) cans of Hunts Fire-Roasted Tomatoes, a handful of pitted green olives, a splash of dry white wine (tonight was Kendall-Jackson 2006 Sauvignon Blanc). I added a heaping tablespoon of Jeff’s Damn Hot Fire Roasted Tomatoes and Chipotle Salsa, but you could either leave it out or dice up a few canned chipotles.
Allow the sauce to thicken slightly (about 8 minutes). Add 1/4 to 1/2 pound fresh (or thawed) shelled, tails-off shrimp. Allow to cook until shrimp because orange. Serve over pasta, with a glass of Sauvignon-Blanc.
Delicious. Quick. I cooked, ate and cleaned the kitchen in less than an hour and fifteen minutes.
Maybe some politics later in the week, or perhaps next week when the DNC gets underway. God knows I’ll need to vent.

West Virginia has such a weird weather pattern. It is August. The current temperature is 64 degrees. The grass is as green now as it was in May. Who woulda thunk it?
As we sat on the porch last night, one of those odd-ball weather moments occurred as the sky opened up releasing it’s raindrops on my head–but not on the heads of Mom, who was sitting directly across the table from me. I joked about how odd it was that the rain would fall fairly steadily on me, but not on her as she sat less than six feet from me. It was then that she noticed this:

With West Virginia–and I guess the whole Mid-Atlantic region–one never knows what one may get when it comes to the weather.
